On the 7th of June 2021 Directive on copyright and related rights in the Digital Single Market and amending Directives 96/9/EC and 2001/29/EC (DSM Directive) will enter into force. To mark this event COMMUNIA is organizing a special COMMUNIA Salon taking stock of the implementation process across the EU and taking a closer look at the latest developments around Article 17 of the DSM Directive. Welcome!
The event will be kicked off with the evaluation of the implementation progress of the DSM Directive (or the lack thereof) in the 27 member states, and, thereupon, a spotlight at the latest developments related to the implementation of Article 17 of the DSM directive will be shed. The Salon will host Julia Reda (Project lead Control © at GFF and former MEP), João Quintais (Institute for Information Law at the University of Amsterdam) and Paul Keller (Open Future / COMMUNIA), who will take a close look at the newly adopted German implementation law and examine the final version of the Commission’s implementation guidance for which it is expected to be published just in time for COMMUNIA Salon. The Salon will be moderated by Teresa Nobre (COMMUNIA).
The Salon will take place on the 7th of June from 15:30 to 17:00 CEST on Zoom, prior registration is required. You can register here.

The 4th Open Knowledge Day took place on Tuesday 17 October 2023, with an accompanying workshop on 18 October 2023. This year it was organised by the Open Data and Intellectual Property Institute (ODIPI) and supported by Knowledge Rights 21 (KR21).
We invite you to the fourth Open Knowledge Day and the workshop, which will take place this year within the framework of the programme and with the support of Knowledge Rights 21. The event will bring together experts from different European countries to discuss two topics: the first part will deal with the legal basis for data analytics, which is a key part of machine learning and related artificial intelligence, and the general exception for research. In the second part, open science in theory and practice will be presented both in Slovenia and in some Western Balkan countries. Representatives of research and educational institutions from Slovenia and the Western Balkan countries, as well as interested members of the public, are invited to attend.
