About IPI
Inštitut za intelektualno lastnino / Intellectual Property Institute (IPI) is a consulting, research, and educational institution, operating in the fields of: Copyright law, Trademark law, Design law, Patent law, Domain name, Internet, Personal data protection, Blockchain technology and artificial intelligence.
The main area of IPI’s work is copyright law. In the field of trademark and design law, IPI acts as trademark representative. It advises various Slovenian companies, ranging from start-ups to large corporations and also to individual creators and public institutions.
IPI is active also in the research field, especially regarding copyright law, where it works with universities, research institutes, art centres and other cultural and non-government organizations in Slovenia and abroad. It also participates in various European and international projects connected to intellectual property law.
In the field of education, IPI organizes lectures and roundtables, participates in conferences, workshops and current debates regarding intellectual property law. With this, it aims to enrich the Slovenian mind set with new ideas and perspectives, crucial for the development of a creative and innovative society of the new millennium.
Dr. Maja Bogataj Jančič is the founder and head of the Intellectual Property Institute, a private research and consulting institution.
Maja graduated from the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana (1996). She obtained her Master’s degree at the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana (1999, Economy), at Harvard Law School (2000, Law) and at the Faculty of Law in Turin (2005, Intellectual Property). She also holds a Doctoral degree from the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana (2006, Copyright). She is the author of many publications in the field of intellectual property and co-author of various books regarding the internet and intellectual property law.
Her research and academic work is focused on intellectual property, especially copyright. She participates in different international projects. Maja is an arbitrator in alternative dispute resolution proceedings for the resolution of domain name disputes regarding the use of the top-level domain .si and a representative for trademarks and designs. She was in charge of the project Creative Commons Slovenia and since 2019 she is Representative and Legal Lead of the Slovenian Chapter in the Creative Commons Global Network. She is also a member of the Communia association that advocates the expansion of the public domain and the increased access to and reuse of culture and knowledge.
